Nagpur: Police permission to Bajrang Dal’s rally on Saturday against Valentine’s Day celebration may have made the activists happy. But for the city police, the permission was granted to ensure peaceful protest. For the past many years, Bajrang Dal has been staging protest rally just a day before Valentine’s Day without police permission. However, this year, city police chief SP Yadav granted permission for the rally to ensure no law and order situation was created in the city.“Granting permission for the protest rally does not mean that the police department supports the cause of Bajrang Dal. We just don’t want any disturbance or tension in the city. The permission was given on the condition that the rally will be carried out peacefully,” said Jt. CP Rajvardhan. However, Bajrang Dal activists, with the police permission, assumed that the government officials were supporting the rally and its cause. Rajvardhan informed that tight bandobast would be ensured in the city on Sunday to avoid any untoward incident. “A team of cops, including women patrol cops from the crime branch, will be deployed at Futala Lake, Ambazari Lake, Civil Lines, Maharajbagh. These cops will keep a watch on the behaviour of young couples in the public,” Rajvardhan said. Cops will also keep a watch at city gardens wherein young couples are targeted by petty criminals. Besides, seven crime branch squads, including three all women squads, will be patrolling city areas for the entire day.
Senior officials promised to provide safe environment for Valentine’s Day celebration in the city but also expect the youths to behave decently and responsibly. Strict action will be taken against miscreants zooming with their bikes at Lake side, police have warned. Strict orders have been given to senior officials of each zone to keep a watch at places near restaurants, cafés and markets. Preventive arrests will be made if anybody was found harassing women.
“Police have been deployed at sensitive areas to provide immediate help but it is people should ensure peaceful environment in the city,” appealed Rajvardhan.
